GINGER COOKIES

1 /2       cups apple sauce substitute
1          cup butter
1 3/4    cups sugar
3/4       cup brown sugar
1          medium egg
1/3       cup molasses
2 3/4    cups white flour
1 1/4    teaspoon baking soda
10 1/2  teaspoons cinnamon
2          tablespoons ginger
1          tablespoons cloves
1          tablespoons nutmeg
1/2       teaspoon salt
1/2       cup powdered sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Cream butter and sugar togetheruntil light and fluffy, taking about 8 to 10 minutes by hand or 4 to 5 minutes in a food processor. Lightly fold in the beaten egg and molasses. Sift flour, baking soda and salt and lightly fold into the mixture with firm strokes using a metal spoon. Season with the cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and salt. Form 3/4" round balls of dough, flatten a little and dip the top into 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Place on a non-stick cookie sheet with the sugar side up. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes depending upon how crisp you like them. Serve warm.
